Well, here is the situation. Ive got my beater Ford Fairmont that I've been using for my daily drive. It has 313,000 miles on it and is about worn out. The motor smoked continually and is in need for a rebuild. Since it died on me due to a bad starter, I've thought aboout rebuilding the inline four or just drop a v8 into it for about the same amount of money. I'm undecided about it as the 4 cyl is the original engine and I know that a v8 will drop right in. It has always been my distant plan to do this and have always pondered this with my friends. So Im deciding. What do you think, v8 swap or basic rebuild with the original 2.3 liter 4? One last thing, gas mileage in this car has always been rotten. For a 4 cyl engine, 19mpg is pretty poor. Its even worse considering the thing only has 88 hp form the dang thing. We'll see in the coming weeks. Oh, this is a domestic, just not a sport compact. ;D Misnblu

ford 2300 has a TON of aftermarket parts. Thats a popular race motor. Is it a 2 door? I'd fix it up if it was..

Robo, what I have is an '82 model 2.3 liter engine. It smokes just a bit, runs and am still undecided on what to do. I dont really have the time to fully rebuild the engine or the money for the engine swap. The way its going now, Im just going to redo the carb, intake mani gasket, water pump, and power steering pump. If I cant get it running, then may consider the engine swap. Misnblu
